Google Bard AI Chatbot Rebrands to Gemini

Google Bard, the company's AI chatbot interface, will now be called Gemini.

Google has announced a major rebranding of its AI technologies. Bard, the company's AI chatbot interface, will now be called Gemini.

In a blog post, Google said the name change reflects its vision for Gemini as an "ecosystem" that brings its advanced AI to users through standalone products and integrations.

"Gemini is evolving to be more than just the models. It supports an entire ecosystem — from the products that billions of people use every day, to the APIs and platforms helping developers and businesses innovate," Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet wrote in a post.

Along with the new name, Google unveiled several updates to Gemini. The company's most powerful AI model, called Ultra 1.0, is now accessible through a new Gemini Advanced subscription.

Gemini Advanced subscribers will be among the first to use Ultra 1.0 and gain early access to new AI capabilities as they are developed. According to Google, Ultra 1.0 outperforms humans on complex tasks like coding, logical reasoning, and creative collaboration.

Google also announced the Gemini mobile app, which is now available for Android devices. iPhone users can access Gemini through the Google app. The app allows on-the-go access to Gemini's assistance, like help with photos, invitations, or drafting messages.

In addition, Gemini is expanding to new countries and languages. While it was previously only available in English, the mobile apps are introducing Japanese and Korean language support, with more languages on the way.

The rebrand comes eight months after Bard's launch, which Google says has seen wide adoption globally. With Gemini Advanced and mobile apps, the company aims to bring its advanced AI to more users across more scenarios.

Gemini Advanced launches today through a new Google One AI Premium subscription plan. Users in the US can head over to the Play Store to download the new Gemini app. While the app isn't available in India yet, we expect Google to roll it out for other regions in the coming weeks.
